Inland Revenue is finalising procedures to issue Gold and Silver cards to reward good tax payers. "We will carry a paper notice soon asking people to apply for the cards," said Commissioner General of Inland Revenue, R P L Weerasinghe.
The Inland Revenue will issue Gold cards to individuals that pay up over Rs 1 mn in taxes, on time.
Good tax payers that hand in half a million in taxes to the government coffers will get Silver cards.
"These are for individuals that pay their taxes on time and submit their tax reports on time," says Weerasinghe.
The scheme, at this point, is not open to companies but is open to non-residents that pay more than Rs 2 mn in taxes.
Cardholders qualify for priority services at government departments like Customs, Police and the airport but do not get any tax discounts.
The Inland Revenue also revived its investigation unit, which was shut down after the previous administration brought in the tax amnesty.
