Speaking to the press in Colombo the delegation said with immediate needs under control, donors should now concentrate their efforts on the long term.

While calling for diversity in the type of aid coming in, a member of the visiting delegation of US Senators and Representatives said the private sector could also pitch in differently.

Senator John Brownback said companies doing business with Sri Lanka and the region could extend their contracts, especially in areas where their contracts expire like the Multi Fiber Agreement.

Brownback said the issue of the MFA was brought up by local industry representatives, but added that right now that there was limited possibility to change
