Sri Lanka Aitken Spence in deal to manage south Indian hotel

Sept 30, 2009 (LBO) - Sri Lanka's Aitken Spence Hotels has struck a deal to manage another hotel in south India as part of an expansion in the sub-continent, a senior official said.







The company has said several more hotels are scheduled to commence operations under its management within the next two years.

Malin Hapugoda, managing director of Aitken Spence Hotels, said the latest addition to the firm's portfolio is the Tamara boutique resort in Coimbatore.

"We've signed a management agreement.

It's a small hotel which will have 24 units in a beautiful location in front of an inland water body," he said.

The family firm owning the hotel is going to build another four boutique hotels of a similar nature in four different parts of south India, he said.

Aitken Spence Hotels, part of the Aitken Spence conglomerate, also manages four other hotels in India: Poovar Island Resort in Trivendrum, Barefoot at Havelock in the Andaman Islands, Heritance Madurai, the former British Madurai Club now converted to a luxury hotel and Hotel Atithi in Puducherry.
