Sri Lanka Taj unit gets new manager

Sept 15, 2008 (LBO) - India's Taj Group says it has appointed a new manager to the 120-room Taj Airport Garden Hotel in Seeduwa, north of the Sri Lankan capital Colombo, which is one of three hotels run by the group in the island. Mathew C Thomas has taken over as general manager from Sanjay Singh who has moved back to India.

Thomas has joined the Taj group in 1980 and has worked in group hotels in India and Yemen.

Under him, the Taj Residency in 2007 was chosen as the best five star hotel in the state of Kerala for three years (2005 - 2007) and the Taj Residency Vishakapatanam was chosen as the best five star hotel in Andhra Pradesh in 2003, the group said in a statement.

Thomas was quoted in saying that he find Sri Lanka very similar to his home town of Kerala.

Taj Airport Garden Hotel is built on the a 38-acre coconut plantation sandwiched between the Colombo-Katunayake highway and Negombo lagoon, in the western coast of Sri Lanka.
