Confifi owns and operates three resorts on what's known as the 'Golden Mile' in Beruwela, south of Colombo, one of the first stretches of beach to be developed into resorts.
The present downturn in arrivals has not hit the group's beach resorts as badly as the city hotels, upcountry hotels and those in the 'cultural triangle', a north-central region where the ruins of ancient monasteries and habitats are an attraction.
"Our beach resorts are enjoying better occupancy than city hotels," Furkhan told LBO in an interview.
Beach resorts have the best time during the winter season between November and end-March.
Furkhan said Confifi's Riverina and Palm Garden hotels enjoyed 90 percent occupancy in the latest winter season that has just ended but Eden at the top end of the business saw occupancy down to about 60 percent.
