Trade assistance to poorer countries from rich countries have increased over last four years, says WTO and OECD. Trade aid – technical assistance and capacity building to help poorer countries take part in international trade – went up by 50 percent since end 2001, says a report by the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

“As donors become increasingly active in this area, aid for trade capacity has grown to some 4.4% of total aid commitments of the world’s major contributors,” said a statement from the WTO and OECD on Monday.

Following commitments by the G8, EU and at the UN 2005 Summit, total Official Development Assistance is also projected to increase from US$ 80 billion in 2004 to US$ 130 billion in 2010.
