Sri Lanka’s UPFA parliamentarians to hand over petition against bribery DG

Apr 21, 2015 (LBO) - A group of 113 of Sri Lanka’s United Peoples Freedom Alliance parliamentarians are to hand over a petition to the Speaker in parliament today, to probe the actions of director general of the bribery and corruption commission, Dilrukshi Wickramasinghe.









“We don’t want the Bribery Commission to stop their investigations but only follow the correct process,” Parliamentarian Nimal Siripala de Silva said in parliament a short while ago.

“There is a certain process to be followed when questioning a former president, this is what we are asking for - we want the correct process to be followed,” “When they questioned the former defense secretary, Gotabaya Rajapakse they came to his house and recorded the relevant statement, but what’s the change in procedure now, this is what concerns us.” Earlier a group of United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) MPs staged a protest inside the Parliament chamber against the Bribery Commission’s move to summon former President Mahinda Rajapaksa to record statements over an allegation against him. The allegation levelled against the former President was that he had bribed a ministerial post to former UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake to cross over.
