The Urban Development Authority (UDA) has drawn plans to dispose a number of its property holdings that dont reap a minimum Rs. 1000 monthly rent, under a policy level decision taken to streamline its operations.

rnThe UDA is also looking for a change in its Act, to allow it to take action against rent defaulters. rn
rnOfficials say under the current Act, the UDA is obliged to give three months notice to rent defaulters, before they can file a case for eviction, which, in a large number of cases is expected to take well over one year. rn
rnFollowing up on the court order for eviction, the UDA then has the task of filing a second case to recover the rent accrued, with a ruling expected in around two to three years! rn
