Government plans to set up 14 Oversight Committees to look over key state functions is on track, with proposals going to parliament in a few weeks.

rnThe committees range from economic development, state revenues and public administration, to human welfare, labour, agriculture, fisheries and tourism. rn
rnOther areas covered will be defence, justice, foreign affairs, media, human rights, the environment and human settlements, which includes transport, housing and electricity. rn
rnThese committees will inquire into administration, expenditure and policies of any public entity and report directly to parliament.rn
rnThe minimum five member task forces will be headed by an opposition Minister and will not include cabinet or other ministers, Peiris said.rn
