Oct 23, 2013 (LBO) - Sri Lanka's Ceylinco Healthcare Services said it had commissioned a 500 million rupee facility which can provide precise radiation treatment, targeting cancer patients in the country and the region.

TomoTherapy machines deliver treatment guided by computerized tomography (CT) where the size of the cancer can be seen and precisely targeted with radiation as it changes size.

Ceylince Healthcare chairman R Renganathan said its TomoTherapy machine was the most modern technology available and it can treat even smaller cancers precisely.

Treatment costs are to start from 200,000 rupees to be at break-even levels, he said.

"It is much more expensive get such treatment abroad," Renganathan told our sister website Vimasuma.com

"We are also targeting patients from the Maldives."

Renganathan said Ceylinco Healthcare Services has seen an increase in cancer patients seeking treatment at its existing facilities. Monthly patients had gone up to about 40 this year from about 30 last year.
