Sept 24, 2009 (LBO) - Sri Lanka's Supreme Court has allowed the island's former Treasury Secretary to return to public service from which he was ousted by court, lawyers said.

In 2008 a three judge bench headed by former Chief Justice Sarath Silva faulted Jayasundara over the privatization of a ship fuel or bunkering monopoly.

Former Treasury secretary P B Jayasundara was allowed to withdraw an affidavit pledging he would not hold public office given to court earlier after he was faulted in a privatisation case, they said.

The case was heard before a seven judge bench Thursday.

Six judges were in favour of allowing Jayasundera's application to return with one judge, Shirani Tilakawardena, dissenting.

The detailed judgment is to be delivered at the next hearing.
