July 09, 2009 (LBO) – A former Sri Lankan Treasury secretary, P B Jayasundara, who was removed by the Supreme Court, might return to his old job if he is allowed to by a new bench, a senior minister said. Court said conglomerate John Keells Holdings (JKH) which bought the ship fuel business had secured favourable terms in a 'false and illegal' manner during Jayasundara's tenure as chairman of the island's privatization body.

Following the main order, Jayasundera was asked to give an undertaking to court to that he will not hold public office.

This week he went to court asking to be released from the promise.

In another case, where a state land transfer was reversed, lawyers submitted to court that orders issued after the main judgment was without jurisdiction.

Supreme Court has not yet said whether it will hear Jayasundera's case.

Both cases relate to public interest petitions filed under provisions of fundamental rights violations.

"Everyone has a right to go to courts and clear his name and P B Jayasundara also has that right," cabinet spokesman media minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa said.
