The Attorney General told the Appeal Court on Wednesday that the government would not go ahead and recruit a Chief Executive Officer to head the upcoming Revenue Authority of Sri Lanka.
The AGs statement follows a petition filed by the Customs Superintendents Union against the Finance Minister and Treasury Secretary, to stop the respondents from recruiting a CEO.

rnInstead, the Petitioners, asked the Respondents to appoint a Secretary General, as they felt a CEO was too powerful to head a vital institution. rn

rnA Secretary General, the Petitioners said, could then work under the guidance of a Board of Directors, with the Treasury Secretary taking up the Chairmans post. rn

rnThe government earlier agreed to the unions request, but went ahead and advertised for a CEO. rn

rnThe Customs Superintendents Union subsequently sought legal action in September. rn

rnIn the meantime, the government went ahead and signed a memorandum of understanding with the ADB, agreeing to appoint a CEO. rn
