SLT said the a demonstration at the office Telecommunication Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) in Narenhpita, a suburb of the capital Colombo, reached download speeds of 100 megabits per second.
"At present, nearly half a million households are connected to SLT Broadband services and we are seeking to connect them in the future through the world's most reliable connectivity option, fibre-to-the-home (FTTH)/ fibre-to-the-building (FTTB)¦" SLT chief executive Lalith de Silva said in a statement.
SLT's broad band packages of 'Web Master', 'Web Champ' and 'Web Life; will now be offered with 100 Mbps download speeds, and 'Web Family', 'Web Surfer' and 'Web Pro' will be offered 50 Mbps with a FTTH connections.
Its PEO TV cable service with high definition channels will also be available though the service.
