Mar 04, 2013 (LBO) - The headcount of Sri Lanka's major export software and outsourcing firms have grown 14 to 21 percent a year during the past three years, according to a salary and benefits survey among its members, an industry association said. A 2010 report, The ICT Export Value Survey 2010, commissioned by Sri Lanka's Export Development Board put the export IT/ITES workforce at 16,500.

According to Sri Lanka's Export Development Board estimates, the IT industry including the domestic market employed about 60,000 people in 2012, industry officials say.

Though recent breakdowns are not available, some analysts believe that the export sector may comprise more than half the number.

The Sri Lanka Association of Software and Services Companies (SLASSCOM) and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) a consultancy, had conducted the salary and benefits survey for the third year running.

Sujiva Dewaraja, chairman of SLASSCOM said that survey "provide a reliable source of data for the existing players in the industry as well as for prospective entrants to assist the decision making process.
