Nov 15, 2006 (LBO) – Sri Lanka Government and the ICT Agency will launch an emergency response unit next month to counter threats and vulnerabilities affecting computer systems and networks, officials said Wednesday. The response unit CERT (Computer Emergency Response Team) will be a source of expertise to assist member organizations in responding to and recovering from attacks over the internet.

CERT is wholly owned by the Government and has the Information Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) and the Secretary to the President, as subscribers.

The Team will also interface with the Asia Pacific CERT and other country's national CERTs.

"The response team will communicate with the CERTs in other countries such as Australia to bring up to date information about threats, vulnerabilities and solutions to our members," Lal Dias, Chief Operating Officer, CERT, told reporters.

The response team will have a 'reactive service' that will lend support by traveling to the organization to resolve the threats or vulnerabilities.
