The Mulankavil base hospital in Kilinochchi and Oddusuddan divisional hospital in Mullaitivu were built at a cost of a million US dollars, where a 30-year war ended in 2009.
"These two civilian hospitals will provide easier access to better and higher quality medical care to the people of Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu Districts," Deputy Chief of Mission William Weinstein was quoted as saying at the opening ceremony.
"The U.S. Government is helping to improve the lives and health of some of the most vulnerable people in the North.
"
In both locations, the US Government had funded construction of new central buildings including emergency treatment units, out-patient departments with four consultancy rooms, pharmacies, and basic labs.
Each out-patient department will have seating for 60 people, and the capacity to treat 150-200 patients per day.
Both hospitals will serve as regional medical centers for the surrounding populations.
