Sri Lanka's Finance Minister lashed out at the country's English press and an international wire service on the eve of the budget, for what he termed biased reporting of the economic situation of the country.

A section of the English media has labeled the upcoming budget as a process where 'Robin Hood' had got his wires crossed, and the Finance Minister Sarath Amunugama was variously likened to Saradiel (a home grown bandit who robbed travelers during the British colonial period), and Weerappan of Southern India in addition to Robin Hood.

"That shows the absolute bias of the English media of Sri Lanka," Minister Amunugama said at a quaint ceremony held on the day before the budget, where the media is allowed to photograph the minister putting the revenue proposals into a wooden briefcase called the 'budget box'.
