Sri Lanka blast kills two: police

Dec 28, 2008 (LBO) - At least two people were killed and many more wounded in a powerful bomb attack at a market just outside the Sri Lankan capital on Sunday, AFP reported quoting police.





Navy patrols intercepted an LTTE logistic boat off Point Pedro at midnight and opened fire, it said.

The bomb went off in the Colombo suburb of Wattala, police said, adding that reinforcements had been sent to the area to investigate.

The explosion came as security in the capital has been stepped up over fears of bomb attacks by Tamil Tiger rebels who are battling a military offensive by government troops in the north of the island.

Meanwhile, the defence ministry said the navy destroyed a Tiger logistic boat killing four LTTE carders north-east of Point Pedro on the northern Jaffna peninsula in the early hours of Sunday.
