Sri Lanka set to lose Kingfisher connections

Mar 21, 2012 (LBO) - India's debt-laden Kingfisher Airlines is to cancel all international flights, a move that would affect its connections to Sri Lanka, news reports said. Flights to Dubai, Colombo, Kathmandu, Bangkok will stop operating by Sunday, March 25, 2012.

"We have decided to suspend our international operations as we are not on IATA platforms. So, there is no sense flying abroad," Kingfisher Airlines Chairman Vijay Mallya was quoted in news reports as telling reporters in New Delhi.

The airline has been suspended from the International Air Transport Association’s account settlement system which settles accounts between the world’s airlines and travel agencies for non-payment of fees.

The carrier reported a net loss of 90 million US dollars for the three months ending December 31, a 75 percent increase from a year earlier.

The ailing airline has already stopped flights to Hong Kong and Singapore.

Kingfisher has flights from the international airport in Katunayake, north of Colombo, to the south Indian cities of Chennai and Trichy.
