A batch of students is now being trained under an aircraft technicians programme which began in June 2007. Training of the next new batch starts in June 2008. Among a batch of 35 technicians that completed a 2-year basic course in aircraft maintenance were five students from Maldives and one each from India and Oman, while seven completed an aircraft engineering course.
SriLankan Technical Training is one of the few companies in Asia to hold the EASA 147 certification from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), to provide training to local and international students.
"This programme is designed and conducted as per EASA 66 guidelines," Harsha Priyadarshan, technical training manager of SriLankan said.
"It is also approved by the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka and the Civil Aviation Department of the Maldives."
