Sri Lankan Airlines aims for shorter transit times

Jan 28, 2008 (LBO) – Sri Lankan Airlines, the island’s national carrier, has steadily increased the number of passengers in transit to 46 percent from 28 percent in 2003/04 in an attempt to make Colombo a hub for air travel, a statement by the carrier said.

According to Sri Lankan, it has recorded a steady rise in transit passengers from 28 percent in 2003/04 to 36 percent in the next year to 42 percent in 2005/06, and to the current 46 percent.

We at SriLankan take great pride in offering rapid connectivity to travelers through Colombo, in order to maximise convenience, Peter Hill, CEO of SriLankan, has said

We actively work towards minimising waiting periods which we know is one of the most annoying aspects of international air travel.

Last year the number of transit passengers remained steady at 46 percent despite the country’s only international airport being temporarily closed during night time for several months.

The airline is hoping that the number of transit passengers will increase with the BIA now being open 24 hours.

The Bandaranaike Intentional Airport was recently refurbished with a new terminal, modern aerobridges, passenger counters, baggage handling systems and a well stocked duty free shopping
