Remove Cut outs and Banners: Election Commissioner

Dec 05, 2014 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s Elections Commissioner instructed all local government institutions to remove cut-outs and banners with regard to the forthcoming presidential election, a media report said. If it is wrong the legal actions should be taken, Keheliya Rambukwella said.

Action must be taken from the relevant government authorities,

It is wrong that all the political parties violates election laws. For examples they leaflets can only be distributed, but there is a problem here. I’m with that stance.

The commissioner has also urged the Colombo Municipal Council to remove election related posters and cut-outs by midnight today.

At the Cabinet briefing held yesterday, information minister Keheliya Rambukwella responded to a question from a journalist asking about the cutouts and banners that have being put up without paying taxes to the local government authorities.
