Sri Lanka apparel group chief says scale can change industry

Nov 12, 2010 (LBO) - Ashroff Omar, head of Sri Lanka's Brandix apparel group had told a global conference that the creation of larger firms can drive research and development to make apparels give higher value to users, his company said.







He had delivered the keynote address at an event marking 100 years of The Textile Institute in Manchester, Brandix said in a statement.

Omar had said that now the apparel making industry was fragmented and chasing cheap labour.

He said that industries such as automobile, computer and footwear have provided consumers with phenomenal products at great prices whereas the apparel industry had provided the same product at a higher price.

Omar had said that large numbers of small players did not have the scale needed to deliver outstanding value.

He said that there was space for a few five billion dollars companies to emerge and change the business model.
