June 6, 2008 (LBO) – Sri Lanka's export promotion agency has named Brandix as the island's top apparel exporter Friday, the group which employs more than 25,000 people, said.

Brandix makes lingerie, casuals, sport wear, textiles, knitted fabrics, thread, accessories and hangers. It also has wet processing, finishing and fabric printing facilities.

"The concluded year was one of the most challenging ever, but it was also the year in which Brandix launched the highest number of projects," Brandix chief executive Ashroff Omar said in a statement.

"We remain committed to investing in future growth and it is heartening to see that our contribution to the export economy of the country has been noted by the policymakers."

The ranking was made by the Export Development Board on export turnover for 2007-2008, Brandix said. The turnover was not disclosed.

The group has 25 factories. It has converted a factory to a 'green' plant in the past year and wants to make all units eco-friendly by cutting their carbon footprint 35 percent by 2012, the company said.
