An International Monetary Fund (IMF) team, led by Mr. Krishna Srinivasan, Director for the Asia Pacific Department, visited Colombo from October 2-4, 2024. During the visit, Mr. Srinivasan held discussions with key Sri Lankan officials, including President Dissanayake, Prime Minister Amarasuriya, Minister Herath, Governor Weerasinghe, and Secretary to the Treasury Siriwardena.

In a statement issued at the end of the visit, Mr. Srinivasan highlighted the productive discussions with Sri Lanka’s economic team regarding the economic and financial challenges facing the country. He emphasized the importance of safeguarding and building on the gains achieved since Sri Lanka’s economic crisis in 2022.

“We are encouraged by the authorities’ commitment to continue the reform efforts,” said Mr. Srinivasan. “The IMF remains a steadfast partner in supporting Sri Lanka and its people and stands ready to assist the country in achieving its economic reform goals.”

The IMF team will maintain close engagement with Sri Lanka’s economic team to set a date for the third review of the IMF-supported program, underscoring the ongoing collaboration and support for Sri Lanka’s economic recovery.
