A fundamental rights petition was submitted to the Supreme Court yesterday, challenging the new restructuring deal of sovereign debt with external commercial creditors. The petitioner claims this deal has violated the basic human rights of the nation’s citizens.
The petition was filed by former Inter-University Students’ Federation (IUSF) convenor Wasantha Mudalige. Key figures in the Government, including the Minister of Finance, the Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, and the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL), are named as respondents.
This petition seeks an order preventing the authorities from entering into any agreement relating to the restructuring of public debts.
