The SpeedBay Endurance Karting Championship 2024 comes to life following a 5-year hiatus with it much anticipation and excitement amongst the competitors and racing enthusiasts.
Endurance Karting aims to test the stamina, strategy, and teamwork of drivers. Teams of drivers take turns navigating go-karts around the FIA-CIK certified SpeedBay Karting Track in Bandaragama, striving to complete the most laps within the six-hour timeframe.
The race demands not only speed, but also strategic pit stops for driver changes, fuel, and potential repairs. Endurance, consistent performance, and effective communication within the team are key to success in this intense and exhilarating competition.
Fourteen teams will be competing for a spot on the podium while racing amongst a talented field of drivers and team managers. The championship consists of 3 rounds which are set to kick off this Saturday the 13 th of July, followed by Round 2 on the 7 th of September with the final race scheduled for the 9 th of November.
“Endurance Karting tests the skill of the racer to manage the kart optimally and on teamwork and strategy. Spectators will witness top Karting racers in the country in their competitive playing field showcasing a thrilling blend of speed, endurance, and expertise”, enthused Buddhima Atapattu, Divisional Manager - David Pieris Group.
As with international endurance racing, a key aspect of the event will be the driver changes, with teams being able to field a maximum of six racers. Team managers and their pit crew are also essential for the six-hour endurance race, adding strategy and race planning to the mix,
with swift pit stops and lateral thinking crucial for victory.
The 6-Hour Endurance Karting Championship 2024 is organized by SpeedBay at Bandaragama, owned and maintained by David Pieris Racing & Leisure (Private) Limited, the motorsports arm of the David Pieris Group, and the Ceylon Motor Sports Club, one of the oldest motorsports
clubs in Southeast Asia.
