The trophy is awarded annually to the most successful schoolboy cricketer of the previous year.
It was first awarded after the 1998 visit to Sri Lanka by HRH The Prince of Wales, to commemorate his visit and Sri Lanka’s 50th Anniversary of Independence.
Chilcott said at the award ceremony, held at Westminster House, that Matthews was also a formidable bowler.
"He is clearly going places and before long will be a household name throughout the cricketing world."
Chilcott said it was good for the whole world of cricket that Sri Lanka should have become, in a relatively short period, one of the most formidable sides in the world.
