September 8, 2022 (LBO) - Member of Parliament (MP) from the Kegalle District Hon. Tharaka Balasuriya has been appointed as the State Minster of Foreign Affairs by President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Previously Balasuriya served as the State Minister of Regional Cooperation, a role in which he liaised with foreign diplomats and dignitaries in an effort to build relationships and drive investment into Sri Lanka.
Balasuriya earned a degree in Mathematics and Economics at the University of Wisconsin in the United States. He was a senior executive at Sri Lanka Insurance before contesting elections and pursuing a political career.
