Sri Lanka launches online platform to provide all import, export information

July 20, 2018 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s Department of Commerce with the help of other government agencies launched a trilingual online platform to facilitate importers and exporters in the country. Sri Lanka Trade information portal (SLTIP) which is the single stop point for all information relating to import and export in Sri Lanka can be accessed through www.srilankatradeportal.gov.lk. Through this portal, traders will be able to get information about all the regulatory requirements they need to fulfill in order to carry out their transactions. This website will assist importers and exporters with finding out what is required by each agency in relation to the specific businesses. The website contains trade information relating to commodities and tariff, products, legal documents, measures, standards, procedures, and forms.

Trade portal also provides an easy way to look up a commodity by keywords or HS codes, a mandatory classification and declaration of goods coming into or leaving Sri Lanka. "This is the first tangible deliverable of TFA implementation plan in Sri Lanka. With the SLTIP, Sri Lanka complies with Article 1.2 of TFA agreement of WTO," Director General of Commerce Sonali Wijeratne said. "We have identified and analyzed 204 Non Tariff Measures and explained 207 related procedures. We have also identified 252 forms related to Procedures and 269 legal documents which provide detail of the legislative background to the Measures."
