Nadaraja Guruparan, a member of the minority Tamil community, was forced out of his car by at least two people and taken away as he drove to his radio station, Surayan FM, police said.
His vehicle was later found abandoned.
"We plead with the abductors of Guruparan to release him unharmed," the private Peace Council of Sri Lanka said in a statement.

A police official said an investigation was under way into the journalist's abduction but that they had no leads.
