Finance Min releases Rs7 bn to farmers for Maha season
Dec 21, 2016 (LBO) - The Finance Ministry will release 7 billion rupees to paddy farmers as a fertilizer subsidy during the Maha cultivation season, the ministry said in a statement.
"The Finance Ministry has released 5.5 billion rupees to the Agriculture Ministry to be distributed among the farmers to purchase fertilizer for the Maha season and another another 1.5 billion rupees is scheduled to be released today -Wednesday," the statement said.
"Since the Finance Ministry has compiled a database of farmers engaged in paddy cultivation once the request has been received from the Agricultural Ministry the money will be directly debited to the farmers accounts."
The farmers will receive 25,000 rupees per hectares for each Maha and Yala seasons separately to purchase fertilizer.
For the next year too, the government has allocated 55 billion rupees for the purchasing of fertilizer for the Yala and Maha Season.
"Farmers will get 50,000 rupees per hectare for Yala and Maha season."
