President moves to liquidate Rakna Araksha Lanka

Dec 07, 2016 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s cabinet has approved President’s proposal to liquidate Rakna Araksha Lanka according to the guidance of Attorney General.

The Rakna Lanka Ltd was established as an government affiliated security service to provide security to special institutions such as economic targets, public institutions, and private institutions.

The company was formed considering the then security status in the country as army officers who provided such security had to be deployed in process of maintaining law and order in the country. With the present peaceful situation in the country it has been observed that such firm is unnecessary.

Accordingly, President Maithripala Sirisena has proposed in his capacity as Defence Minister to assign the tasks of providing security in land to Civil Security Department and in sea to Sri Lanka Navy and to proceed with liquidation of the company.
