May 30, 2016 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s Consumer Affairs Authority has collected over 75 million rupees as fines imposed on local shops and restaurants during the first five months of this year.
In the five months to May this year, the authority has conducted 8,319 raids and in January alone has collected over 10 million rupees as fines.
Colombo district tops the fines list with 6.

9 million rupees collected as fines from 494 raids and Jaffna district came second with 5.3 million rupees and 345 raids.
5.3 million rupees have been collected from 720 raids carried out in the Kurunegala district in the first five months this year.
681 raids have been carried out in the Kandy district to collect 4.

4 million rupees.
The offenders were found guilty for the sale of food products not suitable for human consumption, failure to display food prices and not issuing warrantees for electric appliances.
