Jordan to issue quick visas to Sri Lankan businessmen

Jordanian envoy to Sri Lanka His Excellency Hassan M. Al Jawarneh says, his embassy will help Sri Lankan businessmen to access quick visas to Jordan. However, he said, such a request should be recommended by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, the country’s premier business Chamber.

This was mentioned when His Excellency Al Jawarneh and the Honorary Consul of Jordan in Sri Lanka Mr. Asgi Akbarally, held a meeting with the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce recently, to discuss the way forward to enhance commercial ties between Sri Lanka and Jordan. They were met by Mr. Samantha Ranatunga, Chairman of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, Mr.

Mangala P. B. Yapa, CEO of the Chamber and Mrs. Lilakshini De Mel, Senior Assistant Secretary General of the institution. “We will issue visas for the Sri Lankan businessmen, who wants to visit Jordan within six hours, if the Ceylon Chamber recommends them”, said Asgi Akbarally, Honorary Consul of Jordan in Sri Lanka. His comments were endorsed by the India based Jordanian envoy. His Excellency Hassan M. Al Jawarneh emphasised on the importance of both countries working towards strenthening commercial ties.



He says, despite forming various joint commissions and arrangments between Sri Lanka and Jordan in the past, nothing much has taken place between the two sides. In response, Mr. Samantha Ranatunga said, “During the last two years, the country has become more friendly towards the investors, which will help overseas businesses to look at Sri Lanka’. The proposed MOU between the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and the Jordanian Chamber of Commerce also came under discussion, during the meeting.

The MOU, once signed will enable both Chambers to work towards enhancing two-way business. The MOU expected to be signed early this year and would be followed by business delegations visitng both ways.

The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce also invited Jordan to send a group of investors to take part in the upcoming Sri Lanka Business Conclave and Investor forum, which will start on the 08th of March, 2016. (CCC Media Release)
