Jan 22, 2016 (LBO) – The Joint Opposition of the Parliament has sent a letter to Inter-Parliamentary Union seeking an opportunity to express their concerns on what they called jeopardy in smooth functioning of Sri Lanka’s Parliament.

Among the issues they are to take up for discussion are the denial of opportunity for leaders of political parties to express their views and grave anomalies in composition of crucial parliamentary committees.
“Public Accounts Committee and a series of decisions by the Speaker in violation of previous rulings and seriously detrimental to the rights and privileges of the Opposition,” the letter said.

“It is also important to raise with you several issues pertaining to cynical abuse of the National List, resulting in subversion of the will of the people, expressed at the Parliamentary Election.”
The letter has been signed by Parliamentarians Dullas Alahapperuma, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Wimal Weerawansa, Udaya Gammanpila, Bandula Gunawardena, Gamini Lokuge and Vasudeva Nanayakkara.
